About this piece

Son of the Beast imagines the newborn form of the demonic creature from Álex de la Iglesia’s 1995 Spanish cult film, El Día de la Bestia.

Curled inside a handcrafted basket, the sleeping infant displays small horns, elongated ears, clawed limbs, hooved feet, and a thin layer of synthetic hair running along its back.

A wooden rosary surrounds the basket, suggesting that it was placed there to contain, protect, or watch over the creature.

The figure was created in collaboration with and approved by Álex de la Iglesia.

On its significance

This sculpture explores a previously unseen stage in the life of the creature from El Día de la Bestia (The Day of the Beast).

Its sleeping position and newborn proportions contrast with its demonic anatomy, creating a specimen that initially appears vulnerable and peaceful, but becomes increasingly unsettling as its details are examined.

The handcrafted basket and wooden rosary give the piece the appearance of a recovered religious artifact or forbidden nativity display.
